The Ball Mudder
The Ball Mudder is a system for applying mud to baseballs in order to achieve a consistent uniform color, automatically, without human intervention.
Conventionally, game balls are rubbed with mud by hand in the hours leading up to a game. Often this task is completed by the staff of the home team, which can result in an unfair advantage. Additionally, because the mud is applied by hand, it is inconsistent and varies from stadium to stadium and ball to ball.
The Ball Mudder system automates this process by utilizing advanced technology to queue new baseballs into the machine, one at a time, spray them with a Magic Mud and water mixture, buff them, inspect them for quality and consistency, and imprint them with a unique serial number. The feedback received from each of the sensors at each stage guarantee that each baseball receives the same treatment and perfectly meets MLB’s specification for mudded baseballs.
